The YMCA Beaverdam Summer Camp asked me to be part of their camp opening day by doing a presentation on not being a bully. I went over the four tenets of the YMCA with them- Honesty, Caring, Respect, and Responsibility- and then we went into the bullying presentation.
To recap the discussion, the best way to avoid being a bully is to pay attention to what your friends say. Stop means stop. If you are being bullied, here are a few steps to take!
- Tell your teacher. They care and will take action.
- Tell the bully to stop.
- Walk away from the bully.
- If somebody is hitting you, guard yourself, get out of the way, and look to escape.
- Use apppropriate humor to lighten the mood.
These are just five ideas that can be a big help!
This is the kind of thing we teach every day at the White Oak Martial Arts Center, click here for more information about us!
